Most mariachi songs are in the major key but sometimes you get one in the minor and it's very dark and expressive - similar to the Los Lobos song from Desperado. It's called Cancion del Mariachi so obviously it's based on MARIACHI! After hearing this song, and knowing Los Lobos has released albums of Mexican folk music I felt they must have based it on some genre or style of Mexican/Latin music. The main reason I started playing a classical guitar was because I like Latin guitar music so much.
